Zinc Sulphate

Zinc Sulphate is a soluble zinc salt, 23% zinc and 11% sulphur, used in small amounts to correct zinc deficiency from a soil test. It suits advanced growers and certified organic growers working to a soil prescription.

At a glance

  • Type: trace element salt (soluble powder)
  • Supplier certificate on file: BioGro licence 297. See the certificate and its dates.
  • Analysis: zinc 23%, sulphur 11% (zinc sulphate monohydrate)
  • Use for: correcting zinc deficiency shown by a soil or leaf test
  • Rate: apply from a soil test; dissolve in water and spray for even distribution

What it is

Zinc sulphate monohydrate is a water soluble zinc salt that also supplies sulphur as sulphate. It dissolves in water for spraying or irrigation.

What it does

  • Zinc is needed to make auxin, the growth hormone, and is a cofactor for many enzymes.
  • Deficiency shows as small leaves, short internodes and bunched shoot tips. High soil phosphorus is the usual cause.
  • A foliar spray is the fastest way to correct a zinc deficiency.
  • The sulphate half supplies sulphur, which plants use for proteins, oils and flavour compounds.

Analysis

  • Zinc (Zn) 23%
  • Sulphur (S) 11%
  • Form: zinc sulphate monohydrate

How to use

  • Dissolve in water and spray for even distribution.
  • Foliar: 100 to 250 g per 100 L of water (0.1 to 0.25%), two sprays after emergence or transplanting, or one spray to the spring flush on tree crops.
  • Soil: apply the rate your soil test or prescription calls for, watered in evenly.
  • Zinc has a narrow margin between enough and too much: apply from a soil or leaf test and do not exceed the rate.
