Subclover (Trifolium subterraneum) is a clover defined by its ability to produce diaspores within the soil. It can thrive in low quality soil where other clover species don't do so well.
Another useful trait subclover possesses is the ability to self fertilize. Unlike other clover species Subclover isn't reliant on pollinators to reproduce, its flowers are often found below its leaves, making it less appealing to pest insects.
Like other clover species, Subclover has a high N contribution, excellent weed suppression, loosens soil, tolerates a wide range of climates and makes for a versatile mulch.
