Liquid Potassium Silicate is a concentrated solution of soluble silica and potassium, 7.8% SiO₂ (3.6% silicon) and 4.7% K₂O (3.9% potassium) w/v, ready to dose into irrigation water or foliar sprays. It suits growers who want plant available silicon without mixing the powder themselves.

What it is

This is our potassium silicate powder dissolved in water at 148 g per litre, made up here at Seacliff. Potassium silicate is one of the few forms of silica that dissolves in water, so the silicon in this bottle is in the form roots and leaves can take up straight away.

What it does

• Supplies silicon in soluble form. Silicon is laid down in cell walls and stems, hardening them. Growers use it for sturdier plants, some resistance to mildew, and better tolerance of heat and water stress. Build it in early; it does not move once deposited.
• Supplies a small amount of potassium, 3.9% as the element.
• The solution is alkaline, so a small dose raises the pH of irrigation water or a nutrient solution.

How to use

• Soil applications: 2.5 to 5 ml of solution per 10 litres of water.
• Foliar spray: 2.5 ml of solution per 10 litres of water. Wet both sides of the leaf, with the lights off or in the cool of the day.

Handling and storage

• Wear gloves and eye protection, and wash hands after use.
• Once opened, keep sealed and stored out of direct sunlight.
• The concentrate is strongly alkaline: wear gloves and eye protection and keep it off skin. Always dilute it, and check the pH of the final feed or spray before it goes on, because even the label rate will push soft water above target. Do not mix the concentrate with acids or with calcium or magnesium salts, which precipitate the silicate; add it to the full volume of water last. Test a few leaves first.
