Seacliff Organics Liquid Fish Hydrolysate
Liquid Fish Hydrolysate is a liquid fish fertiliser, made by breaking whole fish down with enzymes rather than heat, with 2% nitrogen and 1.5% phosphorus as P2O5. Dilute it for seedlings, transplants, foliar sprays, houseplants, lawns, fruit trees and hydroponics.
At a glance
- Type: liquid fertiliser (enzyme digested fish)
- Analysis: 2% nitrogen, 1.5% phosphorus as P2O5 (0.65% elemental P), 0% potassium
- Use for: seedlings, transplanting, foliar feeding, indoor plants, lawns and fruit trees, hydroponics
- Rate: 3 to 10 ml per litre of water depending on the plant (see How to use)
- Pack: 1 litre
What it is
Fish hydrolysate is fish broken down by enzymes at low temperature, so the proteins, oils and amino acids stay in the liquid. That is what sets it apart from a fish emulsion, which is cooked and has the oil skimmed off.
The NPK below is the figure used in our soil calculator; we do not have a laboratory test for the liquid.
What it does
- Supplies nitrogen as proteins and amino acids: fast for soil microbes and quick for the plant.
- Supplies a little phosphorus with it.
- Growers use it to recondition tired soil and as a gentle feed at transplant and in early growth.
Analysis
NPK = 2 - 1.5 - 0 (N, P2O5, K2O); elemental 2 - 0.65 - 0
How to use
- Seedlings: 3 ml per litre of water.
- Transplanting: 5 ml per litre.
- Foliar spray: 3 ml per litre.
- Indoor plants: 5 to 10 ml per litre.
- Lawns and fruiting trees: 10 ml per litre.
- Hydroponics: 3 to 5 ml per litre.
- Shake well and strain before it goes through a fine nozzle or a dripper; fish solids settle.

Handling and storage
- Wear a mask to avoid inhaling vapour and open in a well ventilated area.
- Wear gloves and eye protection, and wash hands after use.
- Once opened, keep sealed and stored out of direct sunlight.
- It smells of fish for a day or so after a foliar; spray outdoors or with the extraction on, and keep it away from pets.
