BioAg Bio-SuperSil
BioAg Bio-SuperSil is a liquid soluble silicon product, 0.5% soluble silicon, made with a non ionic nanostructured silica so it can be added to water or fertiliser solutions without a large pH rise. It suits growers who want to add silicon through drip irrigation, foliar sprays or hydroponic systems.

What it is
Bio-SuperSil is made by BioAg in the United States. BioAg describes it as a novel formulation of non ionic, nanostructured silica that mimics the silica found in nature. Unlike potassium silicate it is not strongly alkaline, and BioAg states it blends with water or fertiliser without drastically increasing the pH of the solution. It can be used on all crops and in combination with most organic and synthetic fertilisers.
What it does
- Supplies silicon in a soluble form. Silicon is laid down in cell walls and stems, hardening them, and growers use it for sturdier, more upright plants and some resistance to mildew and stress.
- Because it does not push pH up the way potassium silicate does, it can go into a nutrient solution or tank mix without re-adjusting pH afterwards.
- Low in potassium, so it adds silicon without changing the potassium balance of a feed.

How to use
- Soil, soilless media or hydroponics: 3 to 10 ml per litre of water.
- Compost tea or foliar spray: 3 to 10 ml per litre.
- Soil fertility: 1.2 to 37 litres per hectare (the label rate of 0.5 to 15 litres per acre).
- Foliar, general fertiliser: 1.2 to 10 litres per hectare (the label rate of 0.5 to 4 litres per acre).
- Lawn and garden: dilute 1:100 to 1:300.
- Shake well before use.
Watch out
At 0.5% silicon this is a dilute product, so the per litre rates are much higher than for potassium silicate; do not swap the two rates. Do not freeze. Shake well, as the silica settles. Silicon is a supplement, not a fertiliser: it does not replace a soil test or a balanced feed.

Handling and storage
- Wear gloves and eye protection, and wash hands after use.
- Once opened, keep sealed and stored out of direct sunlight.
- Do not freeze. Shake well before use.
- If ingested, or if the product comes into contact with eyes or skin irritation is present, rinse the area well and call the National Poisons Centre on 0800 POISON (0800 764 766).
