Terra Neem Water Soluble Neem Oil (high strength)

Terra Neem is an emulsified, cold pressed neem oil concentrate with 1548 mg/kg azadirachtin by the current batch certificate. Growers dilute it in water as a leaf spray and a soil drench. It is sold as a horticultural oil, not as a registered pesticide.

What it is

Neem oil is pressed from the seeds of the neem tree, Azadirachta indica. Terra Neem is cold pressed neem oil with a natural emulsifier and no synthetic surfactants or solvents, so it mixes straight into water with no separate wetting agent. The compound neem is known for is azadirachtin; the current batch certificate reads 1548 mg/kg.

What it does

• Azadirachtin is the neem compound described in the research literature as an insect antifeedant and growth regulator.
• The oil film is why horticultural oils in general are used where soft bodied insects and mites are present.
• Growers use it as a leaf spray where aphids, mites, thrips, whitefly or fungus gnats are a problem. We make no efficacy claim: Terra Neem is not registered under the ACVM Act as a pesticide in New Zealand.
• As a soil drench it is used where fungus gnats breed in the top of the pot.

How to use

• Preventative or light infestation: 5 to 10 mL per litre of water. Spray every 7 to 10 days, or after heavy rain.
• Shake well. Spray both sides of the leaves and the stems until runoff. Apply early morning or late evening to avoid leaf burn.
• Heavy infestation: 15 to 20 mL per litre of water, every 3 to 5 days until the problem subsides.
• Optional for heavy infestations: add a wetting agent such as Yucca Extract or Quillaja Extract, or Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki where caterpillars are the problem.
• Soil drench for fungus gnats: 5 mL per litre of water, applied to the topsoil or root zone as needed.

Handling and storage

• Store in a cool, dark place.
• Wear gloves and eye protection when mixing and spraying, and wash hands after use.

• Oil on a leaf in strong sun can burn it. Spray early or late in the day, and test on a few leaves first.
• Not for use in aquaponic systems. Keep spray out of ponds and waterways.
• Spray in the evening when bees are not foraging.
• Do not spray open flowers or buds; the oil leaves a residue.
