Amino Acid Powder is a freeze dried, water soluble hydrolysed protein powder with 15% nitrogen in amino acid form. It is a fast, plant available nitrogen for irrigation, hydroponics, compost teas and foliar sprays.

What it is

Amino Acid Powder is Hortigro AminoPro-N: protein hydrolysed (broken into its amino acids), cold processed and freeze dried into a powder that dissolves in water. It can be used in any irrigation system, in hydroponics or aeroponics, in compost teas or as a foliar spray.

What it does

• Supplies nitrogen as amino acids, a form the plant can take up and use as it is instead of building amino acids from nitrate first.
• In soil it is also the fastest organic nitrogen there is: microbes take amino acids within hours, so it is a spike, not a slow hump.
• Dissolves fully, so it goes through drippers and sprayers.

How to use

• Root zone (soil; double the dose for hydroponics):
• Seedlings and cuttings: half a teaspoon per 10 litres of water, once or twice a week.
• Vegetative: 2.5 teaspoons per 10 litres of water, once or twice a week.
• Flowering: 2.5 teaspoons per 10 litres of water, once or twice a week.
• Compost tea: 3 teaspoons per 10 litres of water at the start of the brew.
• Foliar spray, seedlings and cuttings: half a teaspoon per 10 litres of water, once or twice a week.
• Foliar spray, vegetative and flowering: 3 to 7.5 teaspoons per 10 litres of water, once or twice a week.
• Heavy feeder nitrogen target of 150 ppm (about 336 kg of nitrogen per hectare): 220 g (388 ml) per square metre of bed, 1466 g (2586 ml) per cubic metre of media, or 73 g (128 ml) per 50 litres.
• It is a fast nitrogen. Soil barely holds the nitrate that follows, so feed little and often rather than one big dose, and do not use it as the only nitrogen for a whole crop.

Handling and storage

• Wear a mask to avoid inhaling particles and open in a well ventilated area.
• Wear gloves and eye protection, and wash hands after use.
• Once opened, keep sealed and dry.
• Hygroscopic: the powder takes up moisture and cakes. Reseal the bag straight away.
