Seacliff Organics Hamish’s Secret Garden Fertiliser

Seacliff Organics Hamish’s Secret Garden Fertiliser

A vegetable garden fertiliser made from mussel powder, BioPhos, sulphate of potash, kelp and TM7 humic and fulvic acids with chelated trace elements. It suits home vegetable gardens, from leafy greens to root crops, applied by the gram per square metre.

At a glance

• Type: fertiliser blend (dry, for home vegetable gardens)
• Analysis: NPK = 6.2 - 7.6 - 3.2 (N, P₂O₅, K₂O); elemental 6.2 - 3.3 - 2.6, calculated from the ingredients
• Also supplies: calcium 8.02%, sulphur 2.43%, sodium 2.63%
• Use for: vegetable beds, leafy greens, root vegetables and tubers
• Rate: 200 g per square metre before planting; 50 g per square metre around established plants, three times a year

What it is

Made by Seacliff Organics in Otago. Ingredients: mussel powder, BioPhos, sulphate of potash, Ascophyllum nodosum kelp, and freshwater Cretaceous humic and fulvic acid (TM7) with chelated iron, manganese, boron, molybdenum, cobalt, copper and zinc.

What it does

• Nitrogen from mussel powder, for leaf and protein growth.
• Phosphorus and calcium from BioPhos, for root growth and flowering.
• Potassium and sulphur from sulphate of potash.
• Kelp for alginate, mannitol and laminarin, and TM7 for humic and fulvic acids with the chelated trace elements. Growers use these as biostimulants; the measured amounts are listed under Analysis.

Analysis

Calculated from the ingredient analyses, % by weight. Phosphorus and potassium are shown as P₂O₅ and K₂O with the elemental figures beside them.

• Nitrogen (N) 6.24%
• Phosphorus 7.64% as P₂O₅ (3.33% elemental P)
• Potassium 3.17% as K₂O (2.63% elemental K)
• Calcium (Ca) 8.02%
• Magnesium (Mg) 0.31%
• Sulphur (S) 2.43%
• Sodium (Na) 2.63%
• Iron (Fe) 0.038%
• Manganese (Mn) 0.0094%
• Zinc (Zn) 0.0087%
• Boron (B) 0.0051%
• Copper (Cu) 0.0025%
• Molybdenum (Mo) 0.0008%
• Cobalt (Co) 0.0004%
• Selenium (Se) 0.0002%

Also contains humic acid (0.29%) and fulvic acid (0.08%).

Biostimulant content, from the typical analysis of each ingredient adjusted for its share of the blend (% in blend):

• Alginic acid (alginate), from Acadian kelp meal: 0.13 to 0.20
• Mannitol, from Acadian kelp meal: 0.02 to 0.06
• Laminarin, from Acadian kelp meal: 0.01 to 0.04
• Humic acid, from TM7: 0.29
• Fulvic acid, from TM7: 0.08

How to use

• New plants: before planting, sprinkle 200 grams of the fertiliser over each square metre of soil. Gently mix it into the soil, water well, then plant.
• Established plants: add 50 grams per square metre around the plant, three times a year. Make sure the soil is a little damp before applying, and water well afterwards.
