What it is

Pure Manganese Sulphate is manganese sulphate monohydrate, a water soluble salt that supplies manganese and sulphur as sulphate. It is a readily available manganese amendment that can be applied through foliar or soil applications.

What it does

• Manganese is used in photosynthesis, where it splits water, and in several enzyme systems.
• Deficiency shows as speckled or mottled young leaves. Growers use manganese sulphate to correct deficiencies in peat soils, where manganese is often short.
• Manganese becomes less available as soil pH rises, so deficiency is common on alkaline and heavily limed soils; a foliar spray gets around the soil in those cases.
• The sulphate half supplies sulphur, which plants use for proteins, oils and flavour compounds.

How to use

• Dissolve in water and spray for even distribution, or apply to the soil through irrigation.
• Foliar: 100 to 500 g per 100 L of water (0.1 to 0.5%), one or two early sprays or one to the spring flush.
• Soil: apply the rate your soil test or prescription calls for, watered in evenly.
• Manganese has a narrow margin between enough and too much, especially on acid soils: apply from a soil or leaf test and do not exceed the rate.

Handling and storage
