Greencoir Coco Premium, 100% Buffered Coco Coir 50L

Greencoir Coco Premium is a professional grade, RHP certified coco coir: aged, washed and buffered, sold loose in a 50 L bag and ready to use straight out of the bag. No soaking, no rehydrating, no bricks to break up: open it and pot up.

At a glance

  • Type: hydroponic growing medium, 100% buffered coco coir, loose and pre-hydrated
  • Pack: bag labelled 50 L, actual volume about 53 L; around 20 bags make roughly 1 cubic metre
  • Use for: hand watered pots, drip and hydroponic systems, seed raising, cuttings and transplants
  • Feed: a complete hydroponic nutrient from the first watering

What it is

Greencoir is a New Zealand company supplying premium grade coco coir made from RHP certified raw material. The coir is aged, washed and buffered with calcium nitrate, then every batch is tested for EC, pH and consistency. It is sun dried, with no harsh chemicals used in processing.

Coco coir is a growing medium, not a soil. It holds water and air for the roots; the nutrition comes from your feed.

What it does

  • Raw coco is naturally high in sodium and potassium, which compete with calcium and magnesium. The calcium nitrate buffering removes the excess sodium and potassium and pre-loads the coir with calcium, so it is stable from day one and does not lock out calcium and magnesium in the first weeks of growth.
  • Ultra low EC and ready to use: excess salts are washed away, so there is nothing to flush before planting.
  • Fluffy texture that holds a lot of water while keeping good air space, for fast root establishment and even nutrient uptake.

How to use

  • Pot up straight from the bag and feed a complete hydroponic nutrient (an A and B or a coco specific feed that includes calcium and magnesium) from the first watering. Coco carries almost no nutrition of its own.
  • Water to a little runoff and keep the medium evenly moist. Coco tolerates a light dry back between waterings but should never dry right out.
  • Fast draining blend: mix with perlite or pumice, around 70/30 coco to aeration.
  • Seed raising, cuttings and transplants: use straight or blended.
  • Reusable: coco can be washed, recharged with a calcium and magnesium feed and used again.
  • Bulk: around 20 bags make roughly 1 cubic metre. For pallet quantities ask for a price.
