Dolomite Lime (calcium and magnesium)
Dolomite Lime is a calcium magnesium carbonate, a lime that supplies magnesium as well as calcium. Use it when a soil test shows pH and magnesium are both low, in garden beds, top dressing or compost.

What it is
Dolomite is a natural rock made of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate together, ground for garden use. It conditions soil and is used for top dressing garden beds and for helping compost bins break down.

What it does
- The carbonates react with soil acid and raise pH. Magnesium carbonate reacts more slowly than calcium carbonate, so dolomite lifts pH more slowly than Superfine AgLime.
- Every dose adds magnesium: about 11 g for every 100 g applied. That is what makes it the right lime when magnesium is low, and the wrong one when it is not.
- Magnesium sits at the centre of chlorophyll. A shortage shows as yellowing between green veins on old leaves.

How to use
- Test the soil before applying dolomite because of its high magnesium content.
- Use it for the magnesium the test calls for, and Superfine AgLime for the rest of the pH lift.
- Mix into the soil before planting, top dress garden beds, or add a sprinkle to compost layers.
- Dolomite on everything is an old habit. Excess magnesium is slow to undo: calcium from gypsum has to push it off the exchange sites.
- If pH is fine and only magnesium is low, use magnesium sulphate instead of a lime.
- pH is not a calcium test. Read pH, calcium and magnesium as three separate lines on the report.

Handling and storage
- Wear a mask to avoid inhaling particles and open the bag in a well ventilated area.
- Wear gloves and eye protection, and wash hands after use.
- Once opened, keep sealed and dry.
