Tropf Blumat Pressure Reducer

A pressure reducer that lets you run Tropf Blumat cones from a mains tap instead of a gravity fed reservoir. It screws onto a standard garden tap and has an 8 mm outlet for the Blumat supply tube.

At a glance

  • Type: Tropf Blumat pressure reducer (tap connection)
  • Inlet: screws onto a mains tap that takes a standard garden hose fitting
  • Outlet: 8 mm male, takes Blumat 8 mm supply tube
  • Use for: running Blumat cones from mains water; supplying more cones than a reservoir can; feeding cones up to 4 metres above the water source

What it is

Tropf Blumat cones are made for low pressure supply. The pressure reducer drops mains pressure to a level the cones are designed for, so the system can be plumbed to a tap rather than a raised tank.

What it does

  • Gives a steadier supply pressure than a reservoir, so the system is not affected by tank level.
  • Supports more cones on one line than a gravity reservoir, because the pressure is higher and constant.
  • Allows cones to sit up to 4 metres above the water source (supplier figure).

How to use

  • Screw the reducer onto the tap. Most taps that accept a standard garden hose fitting will work.
  • Push 8 mm Blumat supply tube onto the outlet and run it to your T junctions and cones.
  • Set each cone as usual after the line has filled and bled of air.

Handling and storage

  • Do not connect Tropf Blumat cones straight to mains water without the reducer. The cones are a low pressure system.
  • Check the first few days closely: a mains fed system will keep delivering water if a cone is set too open.
